FAQs about hotels in Birmingham

Top-Class Shopping, Culture and Sport

The UK's 2nd largest city, Birmingham is one of its top cultural centres. Well-known for the M6 Spaghetti Junction interchange, it is a surprisingly green city with lots of open spaces.

Most city centre hotels in Birmingham are near New Street Station. To the east is the futuristic architecture of the new Bull Ring shopping centre, and just behind is Digbeth Coach Station. To the west is Victoria Square, home of the town hall and a German Christmas Market.

The Mailbox is one of the newest additions to the Birmingham shopping scene, and behind it is one of the canals converging on the Gas Street Basin. By one canal are the ICC (International Convention Centre) and the NIA (National Indoor Arena), both venues that host major events.

Just opposite is Brindleyplace, a canal-front complex of restaurants, bars and hotels near Broad Street – the main nightlife area. It is popular with students at nearby Birmingham University, whose clock tower is modelled on the one in Siena. Just south in Bournville is Cadbury World, and there are several hotels on Hagley Road to the north, which are available on Booking.com.

The city is also known for sports – Aston Villa and Birmingham City are the top football clubs, while Edgbaston Cricket Ground hosts international matches. Other Birmingham attractions include Hockley’s Jewellery Quarter and the NEC arena by Birmingham International Airport.

The room was very clean and tidy, bathroom huge and also very clean. Shower was good. Beds comfortable but the pillows looked like they were 100 years old. They were as flat as a pancake, definitely need updating. The lifts were out of order which was a pain to carry all our luggage up to the 3rd floor, no offer of help from the staff unfortunately. Also, this hotel is cashless. So be prepared to have to put everything on your card. You cant charge drinks or snacks to your room either, even though the snack vending machine/fridge in reception states ‘charge to room’ on the side of it. Breakfast was good, lots of choice and quite tasty. I was surprised that breakfast was served until 12.00 on weekends and bank holidays, this was extremely helpful since we had been out to a rave in Birmingham until 3am so definitely could not have got up super early for breakfast! I also liked that you can check out up to 12pm. Most places want to boot you out by 10am, so that was really handy not having to rush in them morning. I would come back again if I were to go to another event in Birmingham.

I’ll be straight up I booked this hotel by mistake by hitting the wrong hotel tag and then without realising I’d made a mistake paid up front because it was cheaper. It wasn’t until after the confirmation came through that I realised my mistake and that I’d booked a hotel behind Snow Hill and I wouldn’t get my moneyback if I tried to change it because I hadn’t made a flexible booking. I then spent the next few months thinking the hotel was at the back end of nowhere and because of the price being so cheap it would be awful. Well, how wrong could you get. The hotel was literally a few minutes from the cathedral and to everywhere you needed to get. It took us around 12 to 15 minutes to be sat having a pint in Brindley square from the hotel, about 12 minutes walking to the beautiful St Pauls square. Ideal for the NIA and all the museums and Art galleries. We opted for the 18th floor and got some fab views across Birmingham and all the other normal facilities you get in a good hotel, including an iron, ironing boad and a hairdryer. The toiletries too were DOVe and not some cheap shampoo and soap. The room was excellent and had air con , Free Wi Fi, massive shower, comfy bed and HD television. The staff were fantastic, friendly and attentive and nothing seemed too much to ask. And to top it all breakfast came included and not just your croissant and fruit juice but sausages, eggs, bacon beans and hash browns, toast and muffins and drinks. I can’t remember the last time we booked in anywhere that was nice and decent where breakfast was included. We came out wondering why we’d never tried Holiday Express Inns before, we will definitely be going back. It was excellent.

If you're outside of center or commercial area the city is dirty. I'd say the problem is with not enough litterboxes or not enough litterbox dumping. Everywhere I went. The litterboxes were either full or non at all. I don't understand how you can make bus stop without a litterbox.

Staying overnight in the city centre of Birmingham for...

Staying overnight in the city centre of Birmingham for concerts or whatever is so easy and always a fun and friendly place to go. Plenty of choice in places to eat, drink and shop and my wife and I always visit the large Wetherspoons pub at New Street Station for a drink and food, which is always pretty crowded. On this occasion we went to see Average White Band at Birmingham Town Hall, a great place to see a concert with superb acoustics and a well stocked bar and we were allowed to take our drinks into the concert hall so that was certainly a bonus. We stayed overnight at The Briar Rose, which is extremely popular and is usually fairly crowded but the waiting time for being served drinks is short considering. Definitely worth seeing a music performance at Birmingham Town Hall because of it's seating and perfect view of the stage from the circle. We certainly look forward to our next visit to Birmingham.

The location was very near to the city centre, which made it very easy to have frequent trips to the shopping centres. I liked the openness of the reception area, unlike other hotels that are very small. I also liked the fact the it had access to a gym. I think that the overall design of the hotel is very modern, with tall windows from the ground to the ceiling with beautiful views of the city centre. With the upcoming HS2 train station, I think this will be one of the best, if not the best located hotels in Birmingham.

Pleasant stay. Staff were helpful. Perfect location for O2 academy Selection at breakfast was very varied and liked the addition of take away cups for tea/coffee . Try the homemade biscuits and brownies as were delicious. Considering where situated blocked out alot of the noise Lifts were quick. The hotel offer reduced parking rates at a local car park so ask them where (FYI not the station car park as they are right next to each other, as we had to go round a few times before realising)

Harold's House was the ideal choice for my 5 night stay in Birmingham. Knowing I would be out from early morning until late evening all I required was a bed, bathroom, (and WiFi). Full kitchen facilities were also available, but I did not use these. Why pay excessive hotel costs to subsidise things I would not be using; bar, restaurant, gym, pool, etc. Harold's House provided all that I needed from my stay with much better value for money.

The Park Regis is a very nice hotel in a good location for Birmingham city centre. The decor is plush and up-to-date and the rooms are a good size with large beds.
