Peak season will definitely make this town more lively with more shops open. We came during early April, and the beaches are empty (which could be great if you prefer to keep the beach to yourself). The drive around the island is interesting as most roads are narrow with hills. Recommend to go with the full insurance option if it's not expensive as precocious. Just enough out of town to be quiet and up the slope for the views, but everything is within 15 minutes. Bus station to all the beaches, airport etc just 3 minutes down the road.
